I finally finished the correction and had some time to focus on the table tennis tournament. Finally a tournament only for women. It was held in memory of a former Curaçao table tennis champion, Alice van Putten – Davelaar. When I think of her I recall a picture of her and my mom wearing orange shirts with black shorts. They were sponsored by Fatum, an insurance company.
There were 8 players; so we played in 2 groups of 4 and then in the semi-finals, the number 1 of the group played the number 2 of the other group. I often use this in my math classes for them to calculate how many matches there were. Can you do the math?
I played in the group with a girl from Aruba, Joseline Boekhoudt. She could be my granddaughter (14 years old). I lost to her. It didn’t felt like the difference was too big, but her youthfulness and focus were better.
My mom played in the other group and she also ended in second place after losing to a girl that could be her granddaughter, Julia Jansen (21). She is staying on the island for some months. She will be returning to the Netherlands in May. She is playing in the highest division in the Netherlands.
In the semi-finals, I had to play against Julia and my mom against Joseline. We both lost and Joseline became the winner of the tournament.
I can imagine some of you asking, what about her Ph.D.? I still do not know. I want to do it very much, but every week again I fail to do something. I think it is time to make a plan and stick to it. The road seems so long.
After the marriage, the things that have to be done became more. I think I feel. Last year my bank almost went bankrupt and I had to open new accounts and set everything back up. I think at the end of February everything will be in place.
By the way, how was your Valentine’s day? I hope you enjoyed it. At school the kids were crazy. They were mostly very happy and excited, but one of them got his heart broken. He cried his heart out.
What else have I done during the last weeks? I picked up a hobby that used to help me a lot to destress and feeling good. That is gardening. It’s only then that I can make plans and figure things out. With 5 dogs it’s a bit of a challenge. I have some plants, but I am more into the cleaning of the garden right now. In the picture below you see some flowers. I love it when all my flower plants have flowers on the same day; white, yellow, blue, red and 2 shades of purple. Beautiful!!
